How to connect to an app → Chapter 8 · Connect resources

PostgreSQL

The most widely used open source relational database. Most assets installed on tidoly use PostgreSQL.

ItemDetails
Official site and usagepostgresql.org/docs

Several apps share one instance. A dedicated schema is created for each app, so they don't mix.

For scheduled backups with point-in-time recovery, install the postgresql-backup extension alongside it.

MariaDB

A relational database compatible with MySQL.

StorageMinimum 5Gi · recommended 50Gi

Install a separate instance for each app

Unlike PostgreSQL, connected apps share the same database and the same account. To keep data separate between apps, install separate instances.

MongoDB

A database that stores JSON-style documents.

ItemDetails
StorageMinimum 10Gi · recommended 30Gi

You choose the mode at install time. With a single server, mongodb (single) is enough.

ModeCharacteristics
mongodbSingle instance, lightweight. No authentication
mongodb-perconaAn operator handles authentication, replica sets, and account creation. Not yet covered by tidoly backup

The SSPL license imposes conditions when you offer MongoDB as a service to others. That differs from in-house use, so check the official license.

Redis · Valkey

A key-value store used for caches, sessions, and job queues. Choose one of the two at install time.

Valkey is a project forked from Redis, and apps connect to it exactly as they do to Redis. It's recommended because it has fewer license restrictions.
