Elasticsearch

The most widely used search engine. It is installed with security (xpack security) enabled.

The Elastic-2.0 and SSPL licenses impose conditions when you offer Elasticsearch as a service to others. To use one without license restrictions, choose OpenSearch.

OpenSearch

A search engine forked from Elasticsearch. It's Apache-2.0 licensed, so there are no usage restrictions.

Snapshots are safer for backup

tidoly backup copies the running index files as they are. For important indexes, also use each engine's snapshot feature.
